母親薛秋鳳，1945年8月25日出生於上海。那一天恰好是中國抗日戰爭勝利日，所以父母就給她起個小名叫“和平”。作為家中的老大，她年少的時候就知道與父母一起分擔家務，照顧弟弟妹妹，並承擔家中的經濟負擔。 1964年母親從上海市衛生學校藥劑專業畢業，分配到上海市新華醫院藥劑科工作。一直工作了二十多年。 1970年初母親結婚（去年慶祝金婚），育有一女，康彬。 1990年母親被分派到上海同濟大學附屬同濟醫院，任職藥劑師，並參與新建醫院藥房的統籌工作，直到2000年退休。同年母親與父親來美國探親，並落腳在女兒家，幫助撫養孫輩，三代同堂，盡享天倫之樂。 2003年母親在洛杉磯決志信主，同年在西洛杉磯神州宣教教會與女兒一起受洗歸入主的名下。之後母親隨女兒全家經俄亥俄州，且於2012年搬到印州卡梅爾生活至今。母親平日喜歡做一些手工藝術品，她幽默通達，愛講笑話，且愛好烹飪能做一手的好菜。母親全心顧家，愛丈夫、愛女兒和孫女們超過愛自己。母親長期患有慢性腎病，受病痛之苦，這幾年健康每況愈下。 2021年10月31日下午3:15母親息了地上的勞苦，在家中安息主懷，享年76歲。
