Young Holford Lang
(95) passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at his long-time home in Indianapolis. He was born in Danville, Georgia on February 8,1918 and also lived in Tennessee, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Ohio before settling his young family in Indiana in 1967. Mr. Lang's personality was influenced by his early childhood experience growing up on a farm in rural Georgia and his upbringing, which taught him to have a positive outlook on life and take life's ups and downs in stride.
He had a long-time fondness for baseball, having played the game as a young man and enjoyed sports in general, frequently pulling for "the underdog". He had a natural curiosity about all things and enjoyed meeting and talking with people from all walks of life. He formed strong opinions on many subjects, but didn't tend to take differences of opinion with others personally. He wasn't afraid to try new things, including learning to fly an airplane or hiking through the Grand Canyon (when he was in his 70s!).
He married Corrie Johnson on December 31, 1944 in Ashburn, GA, and they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary next year. He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant during WWII before entering the Southern Baptist Seminary to prepare for the ministry. He served as a pastor for churches in Kentucky, Oklahoma and Indiana and was a spiritual man his entire life. From 1964 to 1974 he worked for Broadman Press, the predecessor to B&H Publishing Group, which is the oldest Bible publishing company in the U.S. He later worked for the Allison division of General Motors in Indianapolis, retiring in 1988. He looked at all experiences as an opportunity to learn something new.
He is already greatly missed by his family, including his wife (Corrie J. Lang), two sisters (Dorris Kent and Pat Aycock), daughter (Laura Lang Jay), son (John Lang), son-in-law (Brent Jay), daughter-in-law (Analia Lang), three grandchildren (Sabrina Lang, Natasha Lang and Andres Lang) and a large extended family spread across the US. We will all miss his grin and those bright shining eyes. The Family greatly appreciates the actions of his caregivers and neighbors over the years.
In his Memory, the family greatly appreciates donations to any charity that supports Alzheimers research, or either of two Cancer-related charities, STOP Cancer, www.stopcancer.org or Pelotonia, www.pelotonia.org.
