Yasuko Summa

Yasuko Summa, 101, of Indianapolis Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026. Yasuko was born in Japan on March 25, 1925, to Sadajiro Imoto and Nobue Sakai. Visitation for Yasuko will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 10:00am-2:00pm at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Home, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229. A funeral service will follow at 2:00pm, with burial at Washington Park East Cemetery.

Yasuko Summa was a native of Japan. After WWII, she served as Personnel Clerk/Coordinator in the Adjutant General's Department of the U.S. Army under Southern Japan Logistical Command, then continued to serve as an interpreter/coordinator in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. Equipment Service Dept., both in Kobe, Japan. She met her future husband, Oliver F. Summa, who was the U.S. Army Signal Corp., Signal technician. They married in 1953. After coming to the U.S.A. in 1954, she was employed at The Travelers Insurance Company in Indianapolis as a clerk typist in the automobile insurance department for approximately six years. She was also employed at D.C. Health and Company in Indianapolis (Subsidiary of Raytheon Company) in the accounting department as apayroll clerk; then, she continued to work as Personnel Assistant in the Human Resources Department until she retired in 1990. She was a longtime member of Downey Avenue Christian Church (Disciiple of Christ). She has also been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church- Japanese Worship group since 1998, attending weekly Bible study meetings and once a month Sunday Services, both in the Japanese language.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Oliver F. Summa, son Robert G. Summa; her parents and siblings; two brothers and three sisters in Japan. Survivors include one son, John O. Summa, one niece, two nephews Jim, Billy; and one sister, and a host of nephews and nieces in Japan.
