Xiaohong (Shelly) Yu passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 4:52 a.m., with her family by her side. She was 60 years old.
Xiaohong was born in Shanghai, China on August 27, 1964. She attended Shanghai Medical University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Medicine (MD) and a Masters of Science in Biochemistry. In 1990, she immigrated to the United States and later received a Masters of Science in Medical Laboratory Science at the University of Utah.
For nearly 25 years, Xiaohong worked at Eli Lilly, where she played a key role in the discovery of impactful new drugs to help treat cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. She eventually became a Sr. Principal Biologist in the Diabetes Complications & Outcomes Research department. Xiaohong was known for her sharp intellect, strong logic, and keen discernment. Her ability to thoughtfully navigate complex issues brought clarity to those around her, helping them move forward with confidence. She consistently went above and beyond to support her colleagues and mentor the future generation of scientists.
Xiaohong enjoyed music, movies, shows, and fitness, while her passions included traveling, gardening, and photography. She approached the world with a deep curiosity and childlike wonder. Most of all, she loved her family dearly.
Xiaohong left behind her husband, two sons Jack Qian and Kim Qian and her beloved grandson Damian Qian.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Northview Church Carmel Campus Chapel. All are welcome to attend.
