Wilma Louise Hobson

August 28, 1948 — August 10, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Wilma Louise Hobson was born in Tutwiler, Mississippi on August 28th, 1948 to Perry and Josephine (Davis) Watson. While still young, and soon after her brother Ron was born, her family fled Mississippi in the middle of the night to escape racial unrest; eventually arriving in Indianapolis. Many people, including her family, knew her as Wilma. Many other knew her as Louise. But all who knew her felt her warmth, her love, her encouragement and the unending support that emanated from her.

Wilma Louise never met a stranger, and no matter the person, she always greeted everyone with a smile. She would make anyone know right away that she genuinely cared about them and their loved ones. Although Wilma Louise’s parents grew up in Mississippi where they were subject to racism in their daily lives, Wilma Louise proudly and often related that her parents taught her to respect everyone. Judging from all the people who loved her, it is evident that Wilma Louise did her very best to follow her parents’ advice.

Wilma Louise passed unexpectedly but peacefully on August 10th, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Perry and Josephine (Davis) Watson, brother Perry Watson II, sister Oga Mae Davis, and daughter Shannon Sadberry.

Wilma Louise is survived by her loving husband Norman Hobson, brothers Ron Watson, William Watson, Allen (Flo) Watson, and Paul Watson, daughters Diane Sadberry, twin daughters Sherry Krane and Terry Sadberry , son David Sadberry, stepdaughter Amanda Hobson-Key, stepsons Michael (Hannah) Hobson, Matthew (Lucy Cottrell) Hobson, and Aaron Hobson, granddaughters, Laparish Sadberry, Terry Anice Sadberry, Ashton (Jenelle Wilson) Sadberry, grandsons Antwan (Kyla) Harvey, Adrian (Shannon) Harvey, Derick Hill, Daniel (Shacole) Hosea, PeAire’ Hosea, Yesh Holler, Davion Sterling Pervine, Cainan Michael Pervine and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Louise married Norman Hobson on November 24th, 2008. They held a special love for each other and were each other’s best friend. She was the best stepmom ever to Michael, Matthew and Amanda Hobson and embraced them with love. Norm and Louise complimented each other in so many ways and brought new experiences into each other’s lives that they had never experienced on their own.

Wilma Louise attended Indianapolis public schools and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1966 and earned an Associates’ Degree in Business from the Indianapolis Business College. She began her working career as an assembler at RCA before her long career in claims and billing in the health insurance industry, most recently at R1.

Perry Watson II was quite a bit older than Wilma Louise and moved to Michigan not long after the family made it to Indianapolis. Perry II’s kids, however, were close to Wilma Louise’s age, and they reconnected in later years. Wilma Louise would become close to Perry and his wife Roberta; her nieces: Georgia (Andrew) Bernard, Cheryl Major; and her nephews: Edgar (Marilyn) Watson, Willie (Patricia) Watson, Perry (Ida) Watson III, Nathan Watson, Joey Watson, and Danny (deceased) and Anita Watson.

Wilma Louise remained very close to her brother Allen and his wife Flo, and was able to reconnect and become close with his children: George (Ashley) Watson, MyIssha Watson and Allison Watson. After many years she was also able to connect with her son David’s children Davion and Cainan. Being able to have these relationships after such a long time brought her great joy.

She became great friends with her mother-in-law Joann Hobson (deceased), sister-in-law Elaine Davis, and brother in-law Bill (Carolynn) Hobson.

Wilma Louise had unconditional love for and held great pride in each one of her siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. It would be impossible to name each person that was special to her. Just know that if you were fortunate to know Wilma Louise Hobson that she loved you and that you were a friend who she adored.

She will be missed every day.
