Wilma J. Lather, 86, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2011. She was born on May 4, 1924 in Indianapolis, IN to Alvin and Ida (Conover) Killion. Wilma was in the U.S. Navy as a W.A.V.E. during WWII, and served as one of the first woman bakers. She was heavily involved in the community as a lifeguard at the Eastside YMCA, Girl Scout Leader, Room Mother, and also worked in the cafeteria at Ben Davis High School during the years her children attended. Wilma was a long time member of Chapel Rock Christian Church, and for several years, led a women’s exercise group. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lather; daughters, Jo Ellen Kerr and Tina Lather; daughter-in-law, Teresa Bodnyk. Wilma is also survived by grandchildren, Nigel, Lauren and Adam Laskowski, Rob Lather III, Breanne Miller and Charles Kerr; great-grandson, Ethan Laskowski. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lather II. Funeral Services of Mrs. Lather will be held at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Speedway on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 10am. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4 until 8pm, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
