Sunrise for Willie Lee Jennings Sr., was on November 2nd 1942. He was born to Lee Jennings and Idell Hilliard Jennings in Como, Mississippi. Willie was the only child born to this union. Both of his parents proceded him in death.
Willie Lee was one year old when his mother moved to Indianapolis where he lived most of his life. Willie attended Indianapolis public grade schools. He attended Shortridge and Crispus Attucks High School., He graduated from Crispus Attucks.
Willie joined the US Army in 1962. and served thirteen and one half years. During this time he was a US Para trooper and served two tours in the Viet Nam war. WIllie won numerus honors and medals while serving in the Army. Willie was a member of the American Legion Post 249, Indianapolis, IN. He attended the Post socializing with his many friends and associates until his health failed.
Willie met and married Frances Jennings in 1963. One son and two daughters were born to this union. His son Willie Lee Jr. "June" proceeded him in death. After a number of years Willie and Frances parted ways. They remained good friends and worked together in raising their daughters. Later years Willie met the mother of his youngest daughter and they had one child. Willie was a loving father and grandfather.. He was never a selfish man always willing to help others.
Willie attended First Baptist with Reverend Young as a young child. He joined Christ Church as a young man under the pastorship of BIshop Tyson. He ocassionally attended Truth Apostolic Church , Pastor Cornelius Bullock.
Willie retired from Allison Division of General Motors located on South Tibbs avenue.
WIllie enjoyed music and his favorite group was the Temptations. He always listened to their music while traveling in his car. When it comes to joking around , he would always make a joke and play
Sunset came to Willie Lee Jennings Sr., on Thursday, January 5th 2012 , at 2:10 in the morning. He leaves to cherish his memories, three daughters, Shonna, Natasha and Anika Jennings-Stone all of Indianapolis, IN. six grandchildren, Latrice, Anthony III, and Anthony IV Wallace. Rionna and Jerome Trotman, and Don'Nika Jennings. One grand godson, Stephen Yarbrough. Willie also leaves his beloved ex-wife and special friend Frances Jennings and a host of other relatives and friends.
