Willie Hamiter

January 30, 1936 — July 17, 2022

Indianapolis, IN

MR. WILLIE HAMITER  was born January 30, 1936 to the late Wardell and Mary Hamiter, in Portland, Arkansas.

WILLIE was a product of the Portland, Arkansas Public School System.

During Willie’s formative years in Arkansas, he worked as a farmer.  After his migration to Indianapolis, he was employed by Methodist Hospital, as a Baker, where he later retired.  He was also a mechanic.  Subsequently, he was employed as a welder at Allison Transmission, where he stayed until his final retirement.

WILLIE was united in Holy Matrimony to Florida Mae Matheney. He had seven children, three boys and four girls. After marriage, the family relocated to Pennsylvania, for a short time, but later migrated to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he remained until his death.

WILLIE was a multi-talented man. He was a trained welder and baker, but he enjoyed trying his hand at landscaping, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work.

While in Indianapolis, Willie gave his life to Christ and united with the Eastern Star Church, Indianapolis, Indiana, where he remained an active member until his health began to fail.

WILLIE loved his family and friends.  He enjoyed traveling to visit with family during family reunion, class reunions, and other occasion he could find to travel.  His work ethic was second to none, and he instilled it into his children.  He was a man who believed in the principle of fairness and equality.  His fashion-sense was amazing and even when he had nowhere to go, you could find him dressed in a pair of starched jeans, a dress shirt and dress shoes.  He loved listening to BB King and others who sang the blues, as much as watching spaghetti western movies.

WILLIE HAMITER departed this earthly life on Sunday, July 17th, 2022, at the age of eighty-six years, five months, two weeks and three days.  He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Wardell Hamiter; his step-mother, Rosie Hamiter; former wife Florida Mae Matheney Hamiter; sister, Ruth L. Johnson-Polk; six brothers, Robert Johnson, Charles Johnson (Maydean), Frank Johnson, Jr. (Elaine), Harold Johnson (Mary), Shellie (Ann) Johnson and John Hamiter (Helen).

He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Anthony M. Hamiter, Sr. (Stella), Rickey R. Hamiter, Gary Hamiter, Janice Hamiter-Richardson (Adrian), Onyette Hamiter-Allen, Jacquline Hamiter and Ingram Hamiter-Taylor (Thurl); his grandchildren, Michael L. Hamiter, Anthony M. Hamiter, Jr., Onge’le Hamiter-Johnson, Wardell X’Zaviar Torrence, Micael Hamiter, Marcus S. Allen, Onyah O. Allen, Malik D. Taylor, Ja’Niah O. Hamiter and Soncerae Hamiter; five great-grandchildren, Michael Hamiter; Zy’aire Torrence, Za’Mya Torrence, Malik Taylor Jr., and Hezekiah Taylor; two sisters, Illie Smith and Trudell (Jeff) Moore; and two brothers, Theo Hamiter (Jenetta) and Frank Hamiter; two Goddaughters, Angela Bivens and Tina Miller (Doug); and three women whom he often referred to as his daughters, Freda Lee-Hamiter, Anita Akers and Monica Smiley; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other loved ones.

His love, smile, presence and wisdom will all be sorely missed.
