William Wesley 'Hoppy' Hoppenrath

William Wesley Hoppenrath "Hoppy" 83 of Carmel, Indiana died peacefully at home on January 17th surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Elwood, IN son of the late Dr. Wesley Merle and Theresa Frances Butler Hoppenrath. He married Joan Phyllis Norman in 1950 who preceded him in death in 2003. His two sisters, Joyce Ann Wampler and Janis Lou Colcord, also preceded him in death. Bill graduated from Wendell Willkie High School and Ball State University. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He worked for Ex-Cell-O Corporation in Elwood and Lima, Ohio before moving his family to Ithaca, NY in 1968 to work for Therm, Inc., retiring in 1990 as Vice President of Sales and member of the Board of Directors. Bill's greatest joys were outdoor landscaping of his homes, golfing and spending time with family. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and humor. Bill is survived by his wife of 8 years, Marilyn J. Hoppenrath; brother Frank "Ote" (June) Hoppenrath of Elwood; his children, Susan Dale Hoppenrath and her partner Jan Mahoney of La Grange, KY; Wesley Norman (Judy) Hoppenrath of Carmel; Teresa Ann Hoppenrath (G.P. Zurenda, Jr.) of Ithaca, NY; grandson William John Hoppenrath; nephew Tony (Tami) Hoppenrath and niece Andrea (Dr. Carl) Satorius. Bill is also survived by his extended family Steve Bone, Barbara and Craig Murray, and Kathy and Jim Brown and their children. The family wishes to express their gratitude to dad's hospice nurse Alicia for her compassion, guidance and support. Calling will be Monday, January 21, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel followed by a service on Tuesday at 11:00 with calling 1 hour. A graveside will be in Elwood Cemetery with Pastor Gary Sobol presiding. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to St. Vincent Foundation 8402 Harcourt Rd.
