William Wendell Long of Carmel, Indiana passed away on May 29, 2018 at the age of 96. Bill was born February 13, 1922 in Canandaigua, NY. After graduation from the College of Wooster with a degree in Chemistry in 1942. Bill accepted a job with the Richardson Company in Indianapolis as a quality engineer where he worked until he retired. He met his wife Jean and they were married in 1952 in Indianapolis. Bill and Jean have three children, Becky (Colin) Leatherbury, David - deceased in 2016 (Jenny) Long and Bruce (Jenny) Long. Bill and Jean have been blessed with 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Bill loved to read, golf and travel with Jean across the country in their RV, winter in Florida and enjoyed some overseas experiences and seeing Alaska and Hawaii. But nothing compares to the love they have for their family. Bill and Jean hosted many Thanksgivings with all of us together where an annual Turkey Bowl game was always held in their backyard! Memorial Day meant shish-kabobs on the grill (and baseball)! Bill and Jean owned a condo on Hilton Head Island and we always wondered if they bought it for themselves or for all of their children as years were spent in the sand and sun. One year they gave every grandchild a bicycle for Christmas and oh, the squeals of delight were palpable. He also enjoyed gardening (except for those doggone rabbits), woodworking and was a member of Sertoma Club. Bill was a committed Christian and has a long heritage of those who were dedicated to Christian service. His mother was born in Rangoon, Burma, the daughter of missionaries. Bill was trained in Evangelism Explosion, and was a member of College Park Church where he served as a deacon. Together Bill and Jean sang in the choir, assisted with Awana, were part of a small group that enjoyed numerous lunch outings, as well as hosted dinners and movie nights in their home! Bill is also survived by his brother Parker (Marty) Long in Green Valley, Arizona. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship or College Park Church.
