William "Bill" Thomas Crawford
age 86, of Beech Grove/Indianapolis, IN departed this
life on Saturday morning, Feb. 4 at Beech Grove Meadows Nursing Facility. He was
born in Burkesville, KY and was the son of the late Lola Mae and Jesse Frank Crawford.
He was a WWII Veteran serving overseas. He was bestowed the honor of Kentucky
Colonel on his 80th birthday. Bill lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling both
domestic and overseas. Some of his favorite times were spent back at home on the porch
in Burkesville. He was a model train enthusiast, collector and operator. Bill
delighted the neighborhood with his Christmas lights and mechanical Santa's sleigh in
the trees, which he designed. He loved to ride his motorcycle & had won several trophies
in different events. Bill retired from Chrysler after 36 years of Service-- he
worked 18 years part time as a TV repairman-- 12 years part time as an air conditioning
installer. At the time of his death he attended South Keystone Church of Christ. He was
preceded in death by a child, Greta Louise Crawford, first wife, Geneva Bone Crawford,
two brothers (Charles Walter Crawford and Dr. John Paul Crawford). He is survived by
his loving wife and caregiver Ruby King Smith Crawford, son – Steven Lee Crawford
(Nancy), two daughters – Deborah K. DeHaan, Virginia Beach, VA And Betty J.
Vaughn (David) of Georgetown,KY two granddaughters – Katie Crawford and Bailey
Vaughn, one grandson – Trevor Vaughn, one sister – Nellie Crawford Froedge (Bobby)
of Goodlettsville, TN. Services for Bill will be at 10 a.m,. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of Indiana or the Alzheimers Association. The Crawford family would like to thank the entire staff at Beech Grove Meadows for the compassionate care they gave Bill.
