William (Bill) Marvin Stowring, 82, passed away July 29th at his home surrounded by family. Bill was raised in Swanville, Minnesota by his mother Ellen Marvin and father Nils Stowring. After the passing of his mother, his father moved the family to Danville, Illinois.
Bill graduated from Danville High School in 1961. He graduated from Butler University in 1966 with a B.A. degree in Business Administration. He received his MBA from Butler University in 1969 and graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking program at Rutgers University in 1979. He worked at American Fletcher National Bank/Bank One from 1967 to 1998 where he worked in the International Banking Department, World Banking Division, Corporate Services Division, and Bank One International Corporation where he retired as a Senior Vice President.
Bill met the love of his life, Linda Dierolf, at Butler University. They married in 1970 and raised their family in Greenwood, Indiana. They just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. They have three children, Susan (John) Britain, Kathryn (Jared) Basham, and Jonathan Stowring.
After retirement, Bill continued to be very active in his community by volunteering his time to several organizations. He served on the Community Health Network Audit Committee and Compliance Committee; Community Health Network Foundation as a Board Member, Executive Committee Member, and Strategy Committee Member; Community Hospital South Board Member; Indianapolis Foreign Trade Zone Board Member, Treasurer and Executive Committee Member; United Way of Johnson County Board Member, Campaign Cabinet – Banking Division Chairman, Administration & Finance Committee Member, and Nominating Committee Member; Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Marketing Committee Member; Johnson County Community Foundation Grants Committee Member; World Trade Club of Indiana Board Member and President; Bankers Association For Foreign Trade (Washington D.C.) Board Member; Executive Council on Foreign Diplomats (Washington D.C.) Board Member; and Painted Hills Association Board Member, Treasurer, Chairman of the Finance Committee.
Bill is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Susan, Kathryn, and Jon; 5 grandchildren, Ross, Courtney, Nicholas, Ella, and Jack; and his sister, Connie. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and his stepsister Sue.
The Celebration of Life for Bill will be at 2 pm on Saturday, August 16th at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington Street) in Indianapolis. Visitation will be from Noon to 2 pm prior to the service. The service will include time for family and friends to share memories as we celebrate the life of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the United Way of Johnson County or greenery that family members can plant at their homes
