William (Bill) George Schmutte, 81, of Indianapolis, joined his Lord peacefully on January 4, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 18, 1932 in Indianapolis to the late Lawrence and Edna (Merklin) Schmutte. The Northern Beach in Carmel was in the Merklin family for over 50 years.
Bill graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1950. He started his career with the Indiana State Police Public Information Office in May, 1960. He retired after 34 years of service on August 18, 1994. It was working with the Indiana State Police, that Bill met his loving wife of 48 years. They married on October 16, 1965.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette; his daughters Julie Anna Strain (Scott), Jeanna Grace Borsa (Mike), his twin grandchildren; Grace Anna Sue and Robert William Forth; brother, Carl H. Schmutte; sister Joan F. Sprinkle, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A Funeral Mass will take place at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1827 Kessler Blvd East Dr. on January 15, at 1:00pm. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service at the church. Entombment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Bill was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, St Pius X Knights of Columbus and the Indiana Troopers Association.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Christ the King Catholic Church.
