Mr. William Russell Maxey, Sr. was born June 22, 1935 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the fifth of six children born to Clad and Virginia Maxey.
William completed his elementary education at Public School # 63. He attended Crispus Attucks High School where he made many lifelong friends. Maxey, as he liked to be called, Professed his life in Christ at an early age.
Maxey worked for several years at Higrade. He also received a certification as a butcher. He later became employed with General Motors where he was a member of the Local UAW # 23. He retired in 2002 after 30 years of loyal service.
Maxey was very well known among the pool players around he city and he was always up for a challenging game of chess.
Maxey was very fond of his family and his children. Heloved a family gathering and a good meal.
William was called to rest on May 4th, 2014 at the age of seventy-eight. His parents, wife (Gwenetta Maxey), sister (Maxine Maxey), brother (Leroy Maxey) preceeded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Debra L. Maxey, William R. Maxey, Jr., Marvin Maxey, Darren Maxey, Jacqueline J. Jennings, three step-children Michael Johnson, Torrence Johnson, Tishana Nash, one brother Clad Maxey, Jr., two sisters Alice Clemons and Evonne Banks. Five grandchildren, Donita l. Stone, Darren Maxey, Jr., Dontae Jennings, Desmond Maxey, Jadelyn D. Proffitt, Jonathan Maxey. Six great-grandchildren and one very special great grandchild Donivan R, Griffin. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who loved him dearly and will truly miss him.
