William R. (Bill) Robertson age 84 of Indianapolis,
Passed away peacefully March 25, 2012 after suffering complications from a broken hip. He was born to the late Sidney and Emma (Ankenbrock) Robertson on December 9, 1927 in Indianapolis, IN. He is preceded in death by his wife Betty, (2003), brothers Sid and Joe Robertson and their wives, Betty and Rita, and nieces and nephews, Ann Theresa, Patty, and Michael.
Surviving are his sons, Dave and Bill, grandchildren, Carol (Chris) Underwood of Huntingtown, MD and Michael (Jennifer) Robertson of Chantilly, VA, 4 great grandchildren, Charlie, Emily, Henry, and Carson, and six nieces and nephews.
Bill graduated from Manual High School in 1945 and studied pre-med at Butler University for two years. He was in the Naval Reserves before joining Secured Insurance and later joined American States Insurance. He attained his CPCU certification and was the lead Property and Casualty Underwriter for Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. He retired from American States Insurance.
Bill's passion was his music. He studied piano from age 7 and played piano professionally throughout Central Indiana. He was a member of the Vern Crain Orchestra and later created his own band. He was a member of local #3 American Federation of Musicians.
After his retirement, Bill worked part time at the Pipe Puffer in Nora and Keystone at the Crossing. He was an avid pipe collector and a pipe tobacco connoisseur. He coached his son Bill in Baseball and CYO football and was a loyal Notre Dame fan.
The family will receive guests from 4 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple. Services will be at 10 AM on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the funeral home, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Pianist Association and the Indianapolis Humane Society are suggested.
