William Regas

August 19, 1918 — June 9, 2015

Mr. William J. Regas 96 of Indianapolis died June 09th, 2015. Mr. Regas was the classic American success story. He was born August 19, 1918 the son of illiterate Greek immigrants John and Mary (Orphanos) Regas in Michigan City, IN. His parents and his sister Isabelle predeceased him. He graduated from Elston High School in Michigan City. Worked in many jobs at Indiana University, and with the help of his sister, Isabelle was able to afford to stay in school attaining a BS '40 and Indiana University Law degree in '42. He was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1942 and the US. Supreme Court in 1956. He was a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana, and American Bar Associations as well as the Commercial Law League of America. After discharge from the US Army in 1945 He joined the law firm of Kroger and Gardis and later became a partner forming the firm of Kroger, Gardis and Regas. Mr. Regas was very dedicated to a healthy life style and visited gyms daily for his workouts. He was a 50 year member of the Athletic Club and visited it every day until it closed. He ran the Mini marathon 3 times the last time at age 72. He was a lifelong Cub fan and enjoyed watching all sports especially track and field. In 1957 he married Jean Barthelme and she survives along with their children Margo Lynn of Indianapolis and Jon Barth (Monika Brundler) Regas of Basel Switzerland. He was a devoted husband and father. Bill and Jean were world travelers and visited six continents. He was proud of his Greek heritage; spoke the language fluently and often visited Greece. Mr. Regas was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 3500 West 106th Street Carmel, IN 46032 where his funeral will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, June 13, 2015. Calling to begin at 10:00. A luncheon will be served after burial. Memorial donations may be made to his church or The Hooverwood Guild 7001 Hoover Road Indianapolis, IN 46260.
