William Lee Mullen, affectionately known as Bill, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, at his home in Indianapolis, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on May 1, 1940, in Indianapolis, Bill’s life was marked by dedication, humor, and warmth that touched all who knew him.
A proud alumnus of Broad Ripple High School and Purdue University, Bill forged a distinguished career as a custom home builder for over 40 years. His craftsmanship and commitment to quality leave behind a legacy visible in the homes he built and the lives he impacted.
Bill was a strong-willed man with a great sense of humor, quick wit, and intelligence. He was known not only for his skill in woodworking and construction but also for his love of boating, fishing, sailing, and camping with his family. These cherished moments on the water and in the great outdoors were a testament to his deep appreciation for nature and family togetherness.
At the heart of Bill’s life was his family, which he considered his greatest accomplishment. He is survived by his children Jeffrey (Tiffany) Mullen, Bruce Mullen, Michael (Jill) Mullen, and Deborah (Kenny) Pope. He was a devoted grandfather to Connor (Anna) Mullen, Ashley (Jacob) Guenin, Brittany Mullen, Sean Mullen, Gabby Pope, Maddy Pope, Sammy Pope, Beck Mullen, Jack Mullen, Cassidy (Thomas) Spencer, and Clover Hay, and a proud great-grandfather to Ruby Sue Mullen and Max William Mullen.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ralph Emerson Mullen and Ruth Heede Mullen, and his wife, Patricia Mitchell Mullen, with whom he shared many years of love and partnership.
A visitation will be held on May 20, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), located at 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. This will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and those whose lives Bill touched to pay their respects and celebrate his life.
William Lee Mullen’s enduring spirit, sharp mind, and generous heart will be remembered fondly. His legacy lives on not only in the homes he built but most profoundly in the loving family he raised and the memories they share. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
