William J. Warren

May 9, 1930 — August 13, 2023

Indianapolis, Indiana – William J. Warren, “Bill”, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on August 13, 2023.  Bill was born to Alfred and Emily May Warren in Thorntown, Indiana on May 9, 1930.  He was raised on a small farm where he learned how to do anything from milking cows and making maple syrup, to fixing a tractor.  Those skills served him well in life.

Bill entered the Air Force after graduating from high school, where he was an instructor in a budding new area of technology…the miniaturization of electronics with the advent of the transistor.  Bill went on to utilize that knowledge when he later worked at the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft division on the eastside of Indianapolis.  There he received our nation’s highest top-secret clearances because of his involvement with the Patriot Missile program and other projects that continue to protect our country to this day.

In addition to his career with the Naval Air Warfare Center Bill leveraged his knowledge of electronics to work a second career installing and maintaining television systems at hospitals in Indiana and surrounding states.

Bill’s work ethic not only allowed him to support his family but was a positive example to his children who have all gone on to live productive lives.  Bill had a quiet demeanor and was actively involved in his local community and neighborhood.  His one passion outside of family was auto racing the grew from his years of racing sprint cars on dirt tracks around the Midwest in his 20s and 30s.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife Dixie Warren.

Bill is survived by his children:  Carol Collins (Jerry), Sandy Statz (Michael), Chris Teeple (Douglas), Laurie McKenzie (Dan), Doug Warren (Lisa), Michael Bowling (Melissa), Cathy Tutterow, Dianna Laskowski (Jeff), 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
