William Herbert Richardson

William Herbert Richardson 90, of Indianapolis, passed away April 3, 2014. He was born April 28, 1923 in Wooster, OH to Howard Logan Richardson and Emily Swick Richardson. Bill graduated from Lorain, OH High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Japan from 1944 to 1946 and received a Bronze Battle Star. Bill married Barbara Easter in 1952, who predeceased him in 2007. He attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH. He received his B.S. degree at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and his M.S. In Library Science at the University of Denver. Bill worked at the Engineering College Library at Washington University in St. Louis and Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. Locally, he worked at Detroit Diesel Allison in Indianapolis from 1962 to 1988. Bill served as chairman of the Special Libraries Association, Indiana Chapter. He was also active in retirement, helping set up libraries at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, Allison Transmissions and Robin Run Village. He was an avid tennis player well into his 80's. He also enjoyed chess, crosswords, and singing in church choir. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Yvonne Richardson of Indianapolis, another son, Clayton Richardson and his partner Rick Glasby of Satellite Beach, FL. Others surviving are grandchildren Emily Nichols, Zachary Richardson, Zache'ry Robinson, and Chad Robinson, and great-grandchildren Zoe, Alijah, Deborah, Z'aKira, and De'onete Jr. Visitation will be held Friday, April 11 from 10 to 11AM at the chapel at Robin Run Village, with a service from 11AM to Noon. Funeral will be held at Washington Park North Cemetery at Noon by Flanner & Buchanan. Memorial contributions can be made to The American Indian College Fund in care of the funeral home.
