William David Hedges, 79, of Noblesville, Indiana, went to be with Jesus on October 29, 2026. He was born on April 7, 1947, in Connersville, Indiana, to parents, William and Ruth Hedges.
Bill graduated from Northwest High School, earned his bachelor’s degree at Ball State University, and received his master’s degree in education from Butler University.
Bill was a loving husband, dad and grandpa, teacher, and coach. Bill was married to the love of his life, Diana Jean, for 42 years. Bill and Diana shared a marriage so full of warmth that everyone around them felt welcome and loved. They served faithfully as youth leaders at East 91st Street Christian Church, shaping countless lives through their ministry.
He taught at Lawrence North High School for 40 years and coached the boys' and girls' tennis team for 41 years. Bill was a dedicated teacher, but coaching was his calling and passion. He was inducted into the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007 after winning 837 career matches across the boys’ and girls’ programs. He continued coaching tennis after retirement, volunteering at Noblesville Middle School and High School to spend more time with his grandchildren.
Bill had the best sense of humor, was always quick with a one-liner or well-timed zinger, and kept us laughing together. He will be dearly missed, but we know he is at peace and so thankful to be reunited with Diana.
William is survived by his children, Josh (Liz) Hedges and Sarah (Mike) Moorlag; grandchildren, Lauryn, Luke, Zach, Josie, Elyse, Jake and Easton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronnie Hedges; and his wife, Diana.
A Celebration of Life for William will be held from 10am-12pm (Visitation from 10am-11am and service from 11am-12pm) on Friday, November 6, 2026, at Northview Church – Fishers Campus, 14842 E 136th St, Fishers, IN 46037. A Graveside Service will follow at 1pm at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery (9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250).
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation (online here or by mail to NPCF - P.O. Box 189 Box Elder, SD 57719).
