William E. “Bill” Dufner, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019.
He was born on January 14, 1945 in Queens, NY and served honorably in the USAF from 1963-1967. Bill relocated to Indianapolis and worked for several years for the State of Indiana; he also worked part time with the Indiana Archives. Bill enjoyed birdwatching and being active outdoors. He was also an avid reader, painter, and sports enthusiast; especially horse racing. Bill found comfort in music and enjoyed playing the guitar. He was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where he met his wife, Maureen (Gallagher) Guthrie-Dufner, who survives him.
He is also survived by his stepchildren, Sean Guthrie, Thomas (Megan) Guthrie, Ryan Guthrie; grandchildren, Keegan, Dylan, Gavin, Luke, James, Nora; brothers-in-law, Thomas (MaryBeth) Gallagher and Joseph (Rita) Gallagher; mother-in-law, Margaret Gallagher. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Dufner; mother, Filomena (Viglione) Dufner Yannotti; step-father, John Yannotti.
Visitation for Bill will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 10:30am – 12pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with a Funeral Mass immediately following. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to the Alzheimer’s Association.
