William Elijah Atkins

William Elijah Atkins, 89, Carmel, passed away January 22, 2015. He was born June 17, 1925, in Olden, TX, the son of the late Robert W. and Serena E. Atkins. He married Helen M. Turner on June 3, 1948. William retired from Star News after 45 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post #34. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen Atkins; two step-sons, James A. (Sylvia) Lewis and Thomas E. Lewis; four daughters, Rebecca Atkins King, M. Kathryn Atkins Morningstar, Marie Atkins (Derrick) Taylor, and Elizabeth Atkins Freije; 10 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by two grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
