William C. Dorris

William (Bill) died unexpectedly on November 29, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center, Carmel, IN. 

Bill was born on March 9, 1943, in Fountain Head, TN to William Dorris and Cecelia (Kirkham) Dorris. Bill lived in Hendersonville, TN and attended Hendersonville High School where he played basketball and was named "Most Popular" in his class. Bill graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a BS degree in Chemistry. 

He started his career with Celanese Corp in Louisville, KY and went on to Lilly Industries, Inc., in Indianapolis, IN where he was promoted to General Manager of Dothan, AL and High Point, NC. He completed his career back in Indianapolis, IN, as Vice President - Corporate Development. Bill served on Lilly's Board of Directors and travelled to many countries to acquire acquisitions for Lilly. Bill was a loyal employee and was very honored to be a part of their team. 

Bill was a man who could "fix" anything. He had a love for wood working, fishing, duck hunting, golf and bowling. Bill was a man of perfection and believed anything you did you should do right the first time, a lesson he learned from his Father. 

Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church in High Point, NC and served as deacon. He has been a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Indianapolis, IN where he served in many ways. 

Bill is survived by his wife, Lee (Lancaster) Dorris; children, Doug (Cathy), Jeff (Michelle) and Kelli (Austin); two granddaughters, Baylee and Billi; two sisters, Anne Harris of Harrisburg, NC and Nancy (Danny) Alvis of Hendersonville, TN, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for William will be from 11a-1pm on Friday, December 6, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Indianapolis – 8600 N College Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46240, with a funeral service immediately following at 1pm. Entombment will take place at Hamilton Memorial Park Cemetery in Westfield, IN.
