William D. Smith

Noblesville, Indiana

 

William (Bill) D. Smith, Sr., 91, Noblesville, passed away August 31, 2023.  He was born September 2, 1931, in Washington, PA, the son of the late James and Margaret (Gray) Smith.  He married Sarah E. Smith on March 28, 1952.

 

Bill was an active member of the church, having served several years as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member.  He was a man of strong faith, who loved his church and spending time with his family.

 

He retired in 1994 from Ryder Truck Rental, Inc., where he worked as the Chicago District Safety Manager.  Bill was also affiliated with Toastmasters International as the Miami Area Governor and with Rotary Club International as a Program Chairman.

 

Bill was a veteran and served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.  He was stationed in Germany with the 25th Artillery Battalion.

 

He is survived by two sons, William D. (Michele) Smith, Jr., and Robert A. (Lloyd Osborn) Smith; two grandchildren, Benjamin (Chloe Jorgensen) Smith and Jennifer (Gage) Bannister; and one great grandson, Will Bannister.  He was preceded in passing by his wife, Sarah E, Smith; and two siblings, James E. Smith, and Iva McClellan.

 

A Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park, Lakeview Chapel 4180 Westfield Road. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
