William D. Bankston

William D. Bankston 81, Indianapolis, passed away October 4, 2011. He was born on August 15, 1930 in Wichita Falls, TX. William was a Pathfinder in the 11th Airborne and achieved the rank of Sergeant in The U.S. Army. He later graduated from Midwestern University and went on to receive a Master's Degree from Indiana University. William taught Spanish at Center Grove High School and later taught English at Franklin Central High School while coaching the boys varsity tennis team, retiring in 1995. He coached high school tennis for 30 years and was a former coach of Junior Davis Cup Tennis. William was a member of the Moose Lodge, Disabled American Veterans, Central Indiana Tennis Association and was a member and past deacon of the Christian Park Reformed Church. He is survived by his children, Terri Kane, William D. (wife, Christina) Bankston II, Susan Williams, Julie Edens (husband, Clay) and Jeneene (husband, Gregg) West; grandchildren, William (wife, Kristin) Bankston III, Ryan Edens, Adam Bankston Kane, Joseph Williams, Justin Edens, Andrew Williams, Anthony Raffield, Brittany Raffield, Amber Derrow, Ashley Derrow and Justin West; great grandchildren, Ezra Bankston and Mason Leavitt; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service for William will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Washington Park East, with visitation from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
