William R. Cycotte passed away Sunday, January 28th at The Restoracy of Carmel with his son and daughter by his side. He is survived by his son Doug Cycotte (Judie) of Carmel, Indiana; daughter Gina Winings (Ron) of Westfield, Indiana; brother Jack of Ellenton, Florida; beloved grandchildren Jon Cycotte (Christy) of Prairieville, Louisiana; Sarah Golden (Larry) of Matlacha Isle, Florida; Tyler Winings of Noblesville, Indiana and great grandchildren William, Benjamin, and Maggie.
Bill, as he was known to friends and family, was born in Decatur, Illinois on May 24, 1928 to John and Lucille Cycotte. He married his loving wife Anita on October 24, 1947. Bill and his family moved frequently between Decatur and Springfield, Illinois before settling in Springfield for many years. Bill began his career as an engineer with Western Electric in Decatur. After five years Western Electric became Illinois Bell Telephone which later became AT&T. Bill retired from AT&T after 38 years of service. Bill was a dedicated employee and was proud to have worked for the same company his entire career. He enjoyed bowling and was on a bowling league with coworkers. After retirement, he took up golf and had a brief career in real estate. Woodworking became one of his hobbies, and he built several Grandfather clocks to give to family members. In 1998, Bill and his wife moved to Carmel, Indiana to be near family.
Bill’s favorite activities included, working in his yard (which was always perfect), caring for his cars and working around the house. He was always so proud of his lawn as well as his home. He was quite the perfectionist and it showed in everything he did. If anyone had something that needed to be done or fixed, he was there to lend a hand. Bill volunteered with the Sertoma (Service to Mankind) Club in Springfield for several years. He was also an avid animal lover and owned several cats and dogs throughout his life. Bill enjoyed grilling outside for family meals and especially enjoyed fixing BBQ ribs with his grandson Tyler.
He will be greatly missed!
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Anita on June 3rd, 2023, his parents, grandparents, and his brother Danny.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Restoracy for their compassionate care of Bill during his final days.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the Hamilton County Humane Society or to Robin’s Nest of Indy.
