William Mark Cook
June 5, 1952 – July 11, 2025
William Mark Cook, age 73, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025. Born on June 5, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, Mark brought joy, laughter, and warmth to all who knew him.
A man of many passions, Mark loved spending time with his family and friends, feeding animals, reading a good book, traveling to the beach, cheering on his favorite sports team, spending time in his yard, and listening to music.
His deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures reflected his kind spirit and generous heart. He was a friend to all creatures — human and otherwise — and found peace in nature’s company.
Mark met the love of his life, Joyce Cook in 1970 and married December 28th,1984. They shared a legacy of 40 years of marriage.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Brian Cook.
Mark is survived by his wife, Joyce Cook, his children; Stephanie (Tom Swaim), Noelle and Blake Cook, his sister Alanna Crawford and his granddaughter; Teagan Swaim.
Known by many in his community as the “Mayor of Geist,” Mark had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and welcomed. His larger-than-life personality and infectious humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Whether he was sharing a story, offering a helping hand, or simply waving from the porch, Mark made his corner of the world brighter.
He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and neighbors, but his memory will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
A visitation for Mark will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Geist Christian Church, located at 8550 Mud Creek Rd, Indianapolis, IN. Funeral service will follow immediately at 12:00 p.m. Mark will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis at a later date.
