William C. Beard

William C. “Bill” Beard, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on June 22, 2021, at the age of 98.  Bill was born in Des Moines, IA on August 14, 1922 to parents, William Cloyce and Anna Sofia (McCorkle) Beard.  Bill served his country honorably as a member of the “Greatest Generation” during WWII in the Army Air Corps, Air Transport Command European Division.  He was honorably discharged in December 1945.  Bill earned his bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati in 1954.  In 1992, Bill retired from The McGuire & Shook Corporation as a Project Architect, after a distinguished lifelong career with the company.

Bill was a 50-year member of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking and lawn care.

Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Florence Honor (Voyce) Beard.

Bill is survived by his children: William C. “Bill” Beard (Pamela), Craig M. Beard (Roseann), Blake I. Beard (Christine), Pamela L. “Pam” Caito (Anthony), Scott M. Beard (Wendy) and Lynne H. Shepard; grandchildren: William “Billy”, Heather, Rebecca “Becky”, Adam, Samuel “Sam”, Gracie, Blake, Emily, Amanda, Melissa, August “Gussy”, Joseph, Cameron and Mara; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021, at Flanner Buchanan-Broad Ripple.  Entombment will follow services at Crown Hill Cemetery.
