William "Bill" Thornberry

William L. “Bill” Thornberry, born August 12th, 1928, to Kenneth and Mary (Olinger) Thornberry in Scottsburg, Indiana. They both preceded him in death.

William moved to Seymour, Indiana, at a young age and lived there until he went into the Navy. He then moved to Westfield, Indiana, where he owned an airport strip for many years. He moved to McCordsville, Indiana when he closed his airstrip.

William is survived by his wife, Margaret (Comado) Thornberry and step-son Harry F. Schwartz, Jr.

Mr. Thornberry was a graduate of Seymour High School and attended Butler University and Indiana Business College.

He was Vice-President and General Manager of Olinger Distributing Company for 33 years. He was also co-owner of Ni-Plastics for 6 years.

Bill was very active in Aviation for over 60 years and flew many air shows throughout the United States. He was a founding member of the Indiana Warbird Squadron, 3, and also of the World Wars Aircraft Museum, Inc. Bill was a member of Experimental Aircraft Assn, and Warbirds of America.

Bill was a pilot and volunteer for the Indianapolis Air Show since its inception.

Mr. Thornberry was a Navy Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was also an active member of the American Legion and VFW for over 70 years.

Visitation will be at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, Friday August 26th, from 4-8pm. Additional visitation will be Saturday August 27th, from 9-10am. His funeral will begin at 10am.

Contributions may be made to the VFW- Fortville, Indiana.
