It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William George Schneider, Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted community leader, who left us on April 22, 2026, in Indianapolis. Born on February 21, 1934, in Falmouth, Indiana, Bill lived a life marked by hard work, dedication to his family and his country, and unwavering kindness.
Bill’s journey was distinguished by his commitment to both his family and his community. In 1964, he founded Mister Ice of Indianapolis, turning it into a flourishing enterprise that stands as a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit. His passion for this country and this city shone brightly as he served as a County Commissioner in Marion County from 1968 to 1971, and then as an Indianapolis City County Councilman from 1971 to 1999. For four decades, William was a passionate advocate and mentor, tirelessly recruiting and supporting conservative candidates at every level. His guidance shaped the careers and lives of many past and current office holders, reflecting his deep commitment to grassroots conservative leadership and public service.
His influence extended through numerous boards and commissions, the Marion County Sheriff’s merit board, and the Marion County Republican Party, where his impact, voice and values still resounds. For his outstanding service, Bill was honored with the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash, a symbol of his lasting impact on Indiana.
Those fortunate enough to know Bill remember his welcoming nature and his great sense of humor and his down-to-earth approach that made everyone feel at ease in his presence. His life's joys included being an avid fan of Bobby Knight, AJ Foyt, and the Indiana Pacers, who he loyally supported as a season ticket holder for 40 years. Most importantly, Bill treasured spending time with his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Patricia Schneider, his loving children, Scott Schneider (Kristine), Deborah Clem (William), Brad, Schneider, and Stacy Madden, as well as twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, William G. Schneider, Sr., and Eleanora Schneider.
Friends and family are invited to honor William’s memory during visitation at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Centers - Broad Ripple, located at 1305 Broad Ripple Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46220, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
