William "Bill" Joseph Cooper

William “Bill” Joseph Cooper, 75, of Indianapolis passed away September 28th, 2023. He was born in Indy May 12th, 1948, to parents Charles and Patricia LaFollette.

Bill grew up in Indy and graduated from Ben Davis High School.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam, where he was stationed in Korea.

On July 1st, 1977, Bill married the love of his life Sharon Hall. They shared over 40 wonderful years together. Sharon passed away in 2017.

Bill was employed and retired from both Rolls Royce and General Motors. He worked as an aircraft engine inspector for many years.

Bill was a strong, hardworking gentleman with a great sense of humor. A social man, Bill didn’t know a stranger He was a talented athlete, enjoying golf, baseball, and softball. He also coached baseball and softball little leagues for many years. Fishing was one of Bill's favorite past times. Bill was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He had a passion for gambling, especially scratch-offs, which earned him two big wins.

He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Bill is survived by his children Brandon (Melinda) Cooper and Tamara Baxter; his sugar plums (granddaughters) Rachel (Paul) Higgins, Lindsey Baxter, Megan (Noel) Cooper, Vanessa (Nick) Cooper, and Sarah Baxter; great-grandsons Malcolm Hussein and Elliott Higgins; siblings Robert “Bob” Cooper, Diana Huntley, Charles LaFollette, Kathy Christman, Paul LaFollette, and Sam LaFollette; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sharon; and his brother Johnny.

Bill’s visitation will be Friday October 6th from 12-2pm at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East. His funeral will be 2pm. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
