William “Bill” Edward Chapman, MD.,
age 88, of Zionsville, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family on the afternoon of Thursday, October 15, 2026. Bill was born in Evansville, Indiana to the late Edward Cyrus Chapman and the late Sacred Anna (Wilson) Chapman on February 1, 1938. He was a graduate of Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana and a member of the Army Reserves. Bill was a graduate of Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine where he completed his residency. He proudly practiced 37 years with Urology of Indiana and was one of the first surgeons to perform a kidney transplant in the United States.
While Bill was well known in the community for his compassion and his accomplishments, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his beloved family and friends. Bill married the love of his life, Patricia Suzanne “Susie” (Clark) Chapman on December 6, 1964. Together they raised four sons, Mike, Andy, Chris, and Jim. The Chapman family made many cherished memories together over the years. Their favorite places to visit were Minnesota, Montana and Florida.
Bill was a man of many talents who enjoyed a vast array of hobbies. His favorites included spending time at the beach, flyfishing, and waterskiing. He was athletic and found peace while running and playing tennis. Bill was a man of God and a valued member on the Board at Heritage Christian School for 23 years and a member of Zionsville Fellowship Church for 38 years.
Surviving to cherish Bill’s life and legacy is his wife, Susie Chapman; his sons, Mike (Kristen), Andy (Robyn), Chris (Christina), and Jim (Ella); his sister, Nancy Crump; his grandchildren, Josh, Nate, Noah, Lily, Ethan, Hannah, Abigail, Aidan, Wren, Gretel, and Simon; his great grandchildren, Lottie, Ruby, Nora, Hallie, Jack, Dane, Riley, Lucy, and 2 on the way; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Bill will be missed by all who knew him and remembered as someone who was always willing to give to others and for serving his family and his community with love and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Zionsville Fellowship Church from 2:00PM-4:00PM. A Funeral Service will begin at 4:00PM. Bill will be laid to rest in Zionsville Union Lutheran Cemetery in a private family burial at a later date.
In memory of Bill, the family asks that donations be made to Zionsville Fellowship Church or to a charity of your choice.
A special thanks to the memory care staff at Holliday Farms who cared for him and loved him well.
