William Ballard

William M. Ballard, Jr., 90, died on Dec. 24, 2012 in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on October 28, 1922 in Indianapolis to William M. Ballard and Helen (Kornbroke) Ballard, who both preceded him in death. William was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army, for which he gave over 40 years of dedicated service and served in World War II. He was very active in Pike Township, earning recognition from Pike Township schools for his years of service. William was the former chief of the Pike Township Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Pike Township Lions Club. After graduating from Purdue University, William worked for RCA as a manufacturing engineer. He was a USAC race official, focusing on timing and scoring for the Indianapolis 500 and other USAC events. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, and will always be remembered for his giving soul. Aside from his parents, William is also preceded in death by his wife, Georgie (Norman) Ballard and son-in-law Bill Robison. He is survived by his daughter Kimberlie Robison, son William M. Ballard, III, and his brother Richard (Hazel) Ballard. Services will be held Monday, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. in Bethel United Methodist Church – 5252 W. 52nd St. Indianapolis, IN 46254, with a visitation taking place after the service. A private burial will take place at Bethel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project – P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675.
