William R. “Andy” Andrews passed away on February 20, 2026 after a long illness. He was 75-years old.
He was born June 3, 1950 in Shelbyville, Ind. to William F. and Mary Alice Andrews as the eldest of 6 children. Although his family calls him Bill, he picked up the nickname Andy at the Latin School in Indianapolis, and it stuck.
He knew from an early age that he wanted to help people and at first thought he might do that as a priest, so he enrolled at St. Meinrad Seminary in southern Indiana. However, he realized he had a different calling and transferred to Indiana University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Social Work. This allowed him to become a licensed Mental Health Therapist for 50 years.
Bill/Andy was also a huge science fiction fan. He was involved with the Circle of Janus Science Fiction and Fantasy club and its annual convention, InConJunction, for 45 years. He was an avid reader of science fiction from an early age, and he often said reading sci fi allowed him to “get off-planet for awhile” when life was stressful.
He survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Cheryl (Judkins) Miller-Andrews, and his mother, Mary Alice Andrews; two sisters – Jan Martin and Joy Evans; one brother – Scott Andrews; three children – Bryan (Rachel), Richard, and Kari (Dustin) Andrews; three grandchildren –Alyssa Coleman, Connor Andrews, and Gabriel Snyder; three “bonus” grandchildren – Alexa and Lauren Snyder and Wyatt Coleman; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 2-4 p.m. at Washington Park North Cemetery and funeral center in Indianapolis. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
