Wesley M. DeVore, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on September 14, 2025, at the age of 78. Wes, as he was commonly known, was born in Swifton, Arkansas on January 10, 1947, to the late, Roe and Effie (Hardin) DeVore. Wes served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War. During his career, Wes worked at the Capsule Plant, Toxicology Center, and Biosynthetic Insulin Department at Eli Lily for many years.
Wes married the love of his life, Florence M. (Layman) DeVore on December 14, 1968. He was a longtime member of The Caring Place of Indianapolis (Formerly Calvary Temple). He and Florence enjoyed hosting connect groups in their home since 1986. In his spare time, Wes enjoyed singing and playing the piano. He had a beautiful tenor voice, his singing would leave you longing to hear more.
Wes had a witty sense of humor and was known for his contagious laughter. Even if a joke wasn’t funny, his laughter alone would spread to everyone else in the room, causing them to laugh as well.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Roe and Effie and his daughter, Paulina DeVore. He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Florence M. DeVore; sisters-in-law, Eilene Coomer (Jim), Catherine “Kitty” Smock (the late, Kenneth “Gene” Smock), Paula Campbell (the late, Tom Campbell), and Annette Mandrell (Kevin); brother, Paul DeVore (Jolene); Uncle, Gerald DeVore (Reba); Aunt, Anna Ruth Hendrix, and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends; as well as his devoted canine companion, Cassidy.
Friends may call from 3pm until 6pm on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 E. Washington St, Indianapolis), where funeral services will be held at 3pm, on Monday, September 22, 2025, with Pastor Jon Susa and Chad Temple, officiating. Entombment will follow services in Washington Park East Cemetery.
