Wendell LeRoy Laisure
88, of Indianapolis, passed away on Dec. 6, 2015, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames, Iowa. He was born in Corunna, Indiana, and was the son of Ralph Lee Laisure and Mary Pearl Harmon. Wendell was a first sergeant veteran of the U.S. Army, serving 29 years on active duty. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, where he earned several medals and awards. After he retired from the U.S. Army in 1972, he served as the ROTC instructor for Washington Township schools for 20 years until he retired in 1992. Wendell served as a member of the American Legion Post No. 0391 for 41years. He is a member of Lifepointe Church, Ames. Wendell's gentle love, patience, and leadership touched the lives of his students, friends and family. His steadfast devotion to the Lord paved a spiritual legacy that his family will forever carry and emulate. He was surpassed by his wife, Lois Elaine Laisure, married 56 years. Wendell is survived by his four children, Wendelinn VonBurg, of Deltona, Fla., Anita Laisure-LeMaster, of Ames, Michael Laisure, of South Bend, Ind., and Andrea Irvine, of Greenfield, Ind. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8p.m., at Flanner and Buchanan -Washington Park East, on Sunday Dec. 13, 2015. Funeral service scheduled at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 in the funeral center. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Wendell L. Laisure.
