Wendell Brown

July 25, 1939 — April 3, 2011

Wendell R. Brown, 71, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011 after a long illness. Born in Monticello, Kentucky in 1939, he was raised and attended school in Haughville on the westside of Indianapolis and lived in Decatur Township for forty-seven years. He was the second son of John William Brown and Algie Opal Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Charles, Donald, Billy Joe, and his wife of 31 years Billie Brown. He is survived by his children, Wendell R. (Tracie) Brown, Jr., Sherry A. (Jim) Manning, and Cathy J. (Terry) Loftus; grand-children Matthew, Christopher, Zachary, Brandon, Cole, Josh, Hayley, and Zach; three great grandchildren Rylan, Landon, and Alexis; sister Sandy Heath; brother Roger Brown; numerous nieces and nephews. Wendell was a 1958 graduate of Washington High School and received an Associate Degree from IUPUI. He retired from Link-Belt/Rexnord in 2003 after 41 years of service in the Quality Control Department. He served in the Army from 1958-1962 as a military policeman in Augsberg, Germany. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, a dedicated worker, excellent grandfather, and a man that God put in our midst to show us the right way to live. Wendell loved God, country, family, friends, and sports, especially IU basketball and the New York Yankees. He will be terribly missed. Services will be Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Decatur Township with calling there on Tuesday, April 5 from 4-8 p.m. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery.
