Wayne Thomas Hammer

Wayne T. Hammer 73 of Indianapolis passed away on February 18, 2011. He was the son of the late Elzie and Nola (Page) Hammer and was born in Tompkinsville, KY on December 24, 1937. Mr. Hammer retired from Detroit Diesel Allisons after 43 years of service. He also served for 31 years in the National Guard and was a member of Burge Terrace Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and the United Auto Workers. He graduated from Tompkinsville (KY) High School and attended Western Kentucky University. Survivors: wife of 46 years, Nancy (Gaines) Hammer; sons, Mark and Brian Hammer; daughter, Marsha Hammer; sister, Wanda Slaughter; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Hammer. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center – Washington Park East 10722 E. Washington St. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the funeral center. Burial, Washington Park East Cemetery.
