Wayne “Wayne-O” DeJournett, affectionately known as “Mister” was born on May 26, 1955 to Johnnie C. (DeJournett) Thomas in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Wayne was a graduate from Crispus Attucks High School. He continued his education by obtaining an Associates degree from Ivy Tech College. Wayne was a member of the Local Union 692 Indiana State Council of Plasterer’s and Cement Masons. He was a Journeyman and an Apprenticeship Instructor. He also served as Field Foreman on many construction projects.
Wayne was very skilled with working on projects ranging from new construction to renovations. He could single-handedly build you a house from the ground up with his bare hands. When Wayne wasn’t working he enjoyed fishing, cooking and attending to his plants. He loved “entertaining” hanging out in the shade talking mess and laughing with family and friends. Wayne was kind hearted and generous; always willing to extend himself to help those in need. To know him is to love him. Wayne was a Father, Brother and Friend he will (forever) be missed.
Wayne confessed his belief and was baptized early on at Good Hope Baptist Church under Reverend Ennis Evans.
Wayne departed this life on Friday June 25, 2021 at the age of sixty-six knowing his destination. He was preceded in death by his mother Johnnie Thomas, his bother Michael DeJournett, and his grandson JaSean Harris.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his daughter: LaTasha DeJournett; sons: Antonio (Nawantha) Harris, Shaun (Shannon) Harris; brothers: Richard and Leroy; sisters: Laurel, Ruth, Loretta, Marcy and Jacqueline; grandchildren: Dakota, Elijah, Jaelan, Savannah, Olivia and Antonio Jr., along with nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives and friends.
