Wanda Rah Stoops
Wanda passed away on the morning of December 11, 2018 at Hooverwood Indianapolis Home, at the age of 97. She was born Sept 6, 1921 to Joseph and Pauline (nee Herschaft) Rah in Hartford, CT. She grew up in Chicago and moved to Indianapolis when she was sixteen.
She attended Shortridge High School, and received her degree in psychology from Purdue University, and held a Master’s Degree in Industrial Psychology, also from Purdue University. She attended the IU School of Social Work in the 60’s, but, because of the school’s restrictions at the time, she was required to abandon her studies because she had children. She took additional courses in psychometry at Butler University in the 70’s. She worked for PR Mallory, Norway’s Foundation Hospital, in a private practice, and as a staff psychologist for Goodwill Industries retiring at age 65 only to return two weeks later and continued to work until she was 70.
She volunteered for the Marion County Crime Commission, the Episcopal Community Services, was twice the president of the Park Tudor Mothers’ Association. Additionally, she was a member of the Indiana Psychological Association and of the Orton Society. She tutored children with dyslexia privately at home.
Wanda was the widow of William T. Stoops Jr. who died in 1974. She will be lovingly remembered by daughter Susan Stoops Watson, her husband Thomas Hamilton Watson, son William T. Stoops III, his wife Lynda Bradfield-Stoops and as, “Me-Me,” to grandson Jack.
A private service and interment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Wanda may be made to Goodwill Industries International, Inc.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude for the care team who assisted Wanda and her family through the last years of her life, especially Dr. Tim Taber, his medical assistant, Carol Fountain, and the staff and caretakers of Brookdale Castleton and Hooverwood Home.
