Wanda L. Barker, 86, of Indianapolis passed away on August 4, 2022. She was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on February 9, 1936, to the late Clara and Elmer Wheatley. Wanda could be remembered singing or dancing, watching her soap operas, or stopping anywhere, anytime, at any speed to go to a yard sale or flea market. She also was an avid reader—sometimes reading a book (or more) in one day. She enjoyed all genres but especially romance novels. She retired from Nabisco and enjoyed her time as a greeter at Sam’s Club. She also traveled with her sisters after her retirement. Most importantly, Wanda loved her family. They were her everything—and she was theirs. Wanda was a “Mom that had to do it all.” And that she did. Wanda overcame many obstacles in her lifetime. Despite all she went through, she successfully created a loving, warm home for her children and grandchildren. She was the matriarch who held the family together. Wanda will be missed by all the lives she has touched.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Campbell; her siblings, Nelly (Ray) Clark, June (Fred) Johnson; her grandchildren, Leah (Todd) Cannon, Chuck (Yoshi) Whyde, Ryan (Alisha) Campbell, Kim (Jason) Duh, Bettyjo (Chet) Ramsey, Wendy (Tim) Harvey, Jaylen Sutton; 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in passing by her parents; her children, Gregg Campbell, Todd Campbell, Judi Whyde; and her daughter in law Judy Campbell.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 2-4PM with a service beginning at 4PM all at Flanner Buchanan—Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St. Indianapolis, IN, 46229. Wanda will be laid to rest in Mt. Eden Cemetery in Hawesville, Kentucky the following day at 12noon EDT.
