Walter “Wally” L. Piechocki, 58, Carmel, passed away May 13, 2016. He was born February 16, 1958, in Gary, the son of the late Floyd W. and Martha Ann (Jones) Piechocki. He married Teri Ellen Wilson on August 16, 1980 in Merrillville. Wally and Teri were high school sweethearts who started dating while attending Merrillville High School. Both of them graduated in 1976 and went on to attend Purdue University together.
Wally received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1979. Wally worked many places during his career including Delco Electronics in Kokomo, IN, Midwest Steel in Portage, IN, Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX and Inland Steel in East Chicago, IN. The family moved to Florida for eight years and during that time Wally owned FunCoast Computers in Port Orange, Florida. He also began working at a small company in Daytona Beach which developed pharmacy workflow systems for hospital IV rooms. That position led to his current position as an implementation manager for the CATO pharmacy system at Becton Dickinson (BD). Wally worked at hospitals across the country and made new friends wherever he went. He loved the marriage of pharmacy and technology and jokingly called himself a “pharmacy engineer”.
In his spare time Wally loved cooking for his family. His hobby was collecting kitchen gadgets and unique spices to use in creating his culinary masterpieces. He also loved fishing and some of his best childhood memories were spent with his family in a cabin in Wisconsin. He also loved to exercise and listen to all types of music. His musical tastes were eclectic to say the least and he had recently been bombarding his family with the song “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore. His favorite clothes were his collection of Hawaiian shirts that he loved wearing to parties.
Wally was one of the best people you would ever want to meet. You could count on him to always have your back, always hold the door open for you and always do everything he could to make you laugh. The light in the world got a little dimmer with his passing on May 13th. From high school sweethearts to college graduates to life long friends, Teri and Wally loved each other through all their adventures together. Wally was so incredibly proud of his two children, his son David is an attorney who is a contracts consultant at Roche and his daughter Katy who is a math teacher and coach at Westfield High School. Teri, David, Katy, and the rest of his family are his “survivors” and this is what they will have to do – survive without him. It won’t be easy – as they all loved him so very much.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Teri Piechocki; two children, David (Marina) Piechocki and Katy (Jessica) Piechocki; sister, Pam (Stephen) Taylor; two brothers-in-law, Jim Bradley and Scott (Lisa) Wilson; sister-in-law, Lori (John) Brett; and his beloved “Penny Pug”. He was preceded in passing by a sister, Patricia Bradley.
