Carmel, IN

Walter Timothy Pitchford, 78, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 23rd, 2023.  Tim was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 4th, 1944 to the late Walter Thomas Pitchford and Ruth Elizabeth (Cush) Pitchford.

Tim graduated from St. Mary Magdalene Grade School in 1958, Munhall High School in 1962, and St. Vincent college in 1966 with a BA in Political Science.  Tim was awarded the Letterman distinction in college football his first year as a freshman.  A great education led to serving as First Lieutenant Officer in the United States Marine Corps from 1966-1969.  He was a Vietnam combat veteran and received the Combat Action Ribbon and Presidential Unit Citation.  Tim went on to serve his country as a Special Agent in the FBI.  He was with the FBI for twenty-eight (28) years, from 1969 to 1998 and worked in St. Louis, New York City, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis.

Tim’s greatest accomplishments are being married to his beautiful wife Helen for fifty-two (52) years, his four (4) beloved children and their spouses, and twelve (12) grandchildren.

He became known for his great stories and always having a joke on the ready. But Tim was also involved with coaching his kids’ sports teams, being involved with youth ministry and participating in weekly bible study. Tim enjoyed being with family, serving his community and rooting for his favorite sports teams – Purdue, the Steelers, and the Colts. He was also an avid Indy Car fan attending the Indy 500 race with his family every year that his health allowed.

Tim is survived by his wife Helen (Vasel) Pitchford; his son Matthew (Tracey) Pitchford; and daughters Kari (Steve) Stuckey, Colleen (Jesse) Carey, Katie (Tucker) Deering. Grandchildren; Jacob, Mackenzie and Sydney Pitchford; Reid, Addison, and Averi Stuckey; Lucy, Austin, and Ella Carey; Helen, Lincoln and Wilson Deering. He is also survived by his brother; Daniel (Anita) Pitchford and sisters; Mary Karscig, Eileen (Kevin) Mathers, Ann Schular, Kathleen Pitchford, Carol (Joseph) Deasy and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
