Walter J. Lienert, 87 of Indianapolis passed away July 1, 2012. Walt was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a physical education graduate of Indiana University and a member of Phi Epilson Kappa. He was a 40 year member of the Anthenaeum Turners. Walt was a Emeritus Professor of Physical Education at Normal College and IUPUI. He was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1974. He served as a gymnastics coach and judge at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. From 1959 to 1983 Walt operated Lienert's Gym Camp in Indianapolis. Walt is survived by his wife of 55 years Mary Lienert, son Kris and brother John Lienert. He was preceded in death by his son Kurt. Service will be Monday, July 9, 2pm at the Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Ave with visitation from 11am to 2pm and service at 2pm. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
