Walter Peter Langeman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2025, at the age of 86.
Family meant everything to him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Susan, and their five children: Debbie D’Amico (John), Nancy Kapsalis (Dan), Carol Rice (Scott), Michael Langeman (Deanne), and Cindy Reddington (Jim). He is also survived by sister, Linda Waugh. Walt’s legacy continues through his 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Born on June 11, 1939, in Coaldale, Alberta, Canada, Walt began his studies at the University of Alberta before transferring to Indiana Tech, where he earned a degree in Electronic Engineering. It was there that he met Susan, the love of his life. He went on to receive a Master's degree from Colgate University.
Walt enjoyed a 32-year career with IBM, which took him across the country to West Virginia, Connecticut, New York City, and New Jersey before eventually settling in Indiana. Even in retirement, Walt’s entrepreneurial spirit thrived as he opened and ran Langeman’s Deli and Bagels for 10 years.
A man of many talents and interests, Walt was known to friends and family as “Mr. Fix-It”—there was little he couldn’t repair or figure out. He was an avid lover of music, a faithful companion on Susan’s choir tours, and a cherished member of his church community.
Walt was deeply grateful for the gift of more time following his pancreatic cancer diagnosis, thanks to the care and skill of his “angel surgeon,” Max. He approached life with gratitude, humility, and love for those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Lily Langeman.
A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Carmel, IN, on Wednesday, July 9, from 5:00–7:00 p.m., and again on Thursday, July 10, from 12:00–1:00 p.m. His eulogy will be presented at 12:45 followed by a funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m.
Donations may be made in Walt’s memory to two causes close to his heart: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Wheeler Mission.
