Walter Ellsworth Johnes, 103, of Beech Grove, Indiana, entered into the Lord’s presence February 2, 2026. Walter was born at home in Beech Grove on October 22, 1922, to parents, Harry and Clara Sonnefeld Johnes. He graduated from Beech Grove high school. Walt served his country honorably in the Army under General Douglas MacArthur during World War II.

Walt worked as a purchasing manager during his career, retiring in 1977. He was a skilled typist who wrote numerous editorials and letters. He was a man of strong faith and a member of Faith Assembly church in Beech Grove. He was a leader in the Royal Rangers as well as a local Boy Scout troop. Walt was an active game player and sportsman, enjoying tennis, baseball and camping. He loved his country and traveled extensively across America.

Walter was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Joan Elnora, their daughter Julie Eileen, and their sons Walter Stephen, Randal Lee and Eric James. He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Ann Johnes Senft and Faith MaDawn Johnes.

A graveside service will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Washington Park East Cemetery -10612 E Washington St, Indianapolis, IN.
