W. Lynn Martin, 92, Indianapolis, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012. He was born April 25, 1920, in Johnson City, NY, the son of the late Wilbur Lynn and Mabel Jane (Bauder) Martin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Cross Martin. Lynn is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diann and Bill O'Connor, St. Petersburg, FL; granddaughters, Christine D'Onofrio, Howell, NJ, and Megan O'Connor, Los Angeles, CA; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Debi Martin, Ely, NV; granddaughter, Sara Kelso, Indianapolis, IN; grandson, James Neel, Dolores, CO; sister, Geraldine Martin Rice, Moraga, CA; six great grandchildren; ex-wife and friend, Nancy (VanAllen) Martin; step-daughters, Danielle Chinn and Elizabeth Hludzik and their families. He attended Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, PA. and served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp during WWII from 1941 to 1945. He participated in various missions as a photographer in the European Theater, the British Isles, and the invasions of North Africa and Italy taking aerial photographs of bombing locations. He retired in 1987 from the marketing department of Creative Packaging, a division of Eli Lilly & Co. Previously he was employed by the International Typographical Union where he taught color separation and plate making. He achieved the position of journeyman printer within 6 months. Prior to his work in Indianapolis, he owned portrait and commercial photographic studios in eastern PA. He was an active member of Broad Ripple United Methodist Church since 1957, where he was a member of the choir and served on multiple committees over the years. He was also a 38-year member of the International Barbershop Harmony Society singing lead and bass. He was honored to be selected as the barber shopper of the year in 1989. His avocation was photography combined with travel in the US, particularly in the Southwest, Alaska, Europe, the Caribbean and South Africa and he was an award-winning member of the Riviera Camera Club for many years. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Broad Ripple United Methodist Church, 6185 Guilford Avenue. A gathering will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at the church. Flowers may be received at the church on Friday, June 1st. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Silent Blessings, a Christian ministry bringing spiritual healing to deaf people and their families.
