W.C. “Dike” McClendon

On Friday, December 18, 2015, during the early morning hour,Mr. W.C. McClendon was called home. Our Almighty Heavenly Father sent a divineangel to usher him to his eternal resting place.

W.C. was born on September 28, 1926 to the union of MatildaDavis and Willie McClendon in Canton, Mississippi, who preceded him indeath. He was the second child of sevenchildren. He attended Cameron Street Public Schools in Canton,Mississippi.

As a child, W.C. attended Pine Grove Missionary BaptistChurch in Canton. He was raised in a homewith strong values in faith, family, education and a deep love for one anotherand their community.

While he lived in Canton, he was employed at ChevroletCompany and had other odd jobs. However,he had a strong desire for more. He wasone of the millions of African Americans that decided a change was needed andjoined in making history by migrating from the South to the North in the early1950’s, searching for work and opportunities for a better life.

His ambition brought him to the place he would make his homeand start his new life, Indianapolis, Indiana. He worked at Hall-Neil Peerless Inc. for several years. He mastered several technical and mechanicaltrade skills, which later led to him to start and own a successful heating and coolingbusiness. He was also a Real EstateInvestor.

W.C. was a member of The Indiana Freemasons, Meridian Lodge,in Indianapolis. He had a love of life,enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening and music (Blues being his favorite).

W.C. is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 years,Ruthie Lee Overton McClendon. Daughters: Nekitta Nicole McClendon, Daphne ReneaMcClendon, California; Tineka Shawntele Cole, and Lynda McClendon (George)McGinnis. Sons: Darren Keith McClendon, Terry Lamont (Angie) McClendon, WarrenQuirk, Jr. and Honorary Son: Danny Wilson.

He also leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life,the four women that he loved and cared for dearly, his beautiful Sisters: Mrs. Willie Mae McClendon Little, Michigan; Mrs.Delores McClendon (J.C.) Luckett, Mississippi; The Honorable Judge MamieMcClendon (C.O.) Chinn, Mississippi; Ms. Marion McClendon Watts, Nevada.

W.C. also leaves to celebrate his memory hisGrandsons: Jermaine McClendon, Marlon McReynolds, Imani Giwa, Brandon Quirk,Raphael Quirk and Richard Taylor. Granddaughters: Alexandria McClendon Williams, M.D. and AshleyMcClendon Williams; 4 Sister-in-Laws, 1 Brother-in-Law and a host of nieces,nephews, cousins, extended loving family and dear friends.
