Vivian G. Lukes, 77 of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023. Vivian was born September 18, 1946 in South River, NJ to the late Steven and Margaret Gruska. She received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA.
After college, Vivian was a social worker in New Jersey, focusing on helping immigrants get situated with their lives in the U.S. On November 1, 1969, Vivian married George and several years later started their family living in Yardley, Pennsylvania. Vivian was a devoted mother to her two children, Don and Nancy. She loved raising her children and family life, helping with school, attending sports and events, cooking meals, holidays, and time with extended family and friends. Vivian loved singing and dancing and having fun with life. Vivian was a very kind-hearted soul and was the epitome of love and tenderness. She spent the last 36 years of her life in Indiana enjoying the friendships her and George had made throughout his career with his co-workers and their families. Vivian loved being a grandmother and her time with Steven, Nathan, Will, and Margaux. Summer family beach vacations in New Jersey were always a highlight of the year for Vivian and some of the best times with family and friends.
Vivian is survived by her husband, George; children, Donald S. (wife, Cynthia) Lukes and Nancy L. (husband, Brian) Henning; grandchildren, Steven and Nathan Lukes, William and Margaux Henning.
Vivian will be remembered for her loving heart, kind soul, tenderness, gentleness, and beautiful smile. She devoted her life to taking care of everyone and was the emotional compass of her family. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, October 20 from 10:00 am to Noon at Holy Spirit Geist Catholic Church in Fishers, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon.
