Vivian W. Isenhower
It is with a profound sense of love and gratitude that we announce the passing of Vivian Isenhower, who peacefully departed this world on February 28, 2026, at the age of 96. Vivian was born on September 15, 1929, to parents Charles Perry Mercer and Ida "Sue" Waive (Lewis) Mercer in Gentryville, Missouri.
Vivian was a dedicated woman in all aspects-from her children to her marriage, to her work, and her education. She was not a person to leave anything half-done. Whatever she set her mind to, she accomplished.
Vivian met George Isenhower, and the two fell in love. They married June 15, 1946, and shared many, many wonderful years until his passing in 2005. Together, they made a beautiful family, and there is nothing Vivian was more proud of than her children.
Vivian gave many years of her life to public service, working at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center before retiring on April 24, 1988. Through her commitment and dedication, she touched the lives of many in her community.
Vivian was a woman of many hobbies. She loved spending her time outdoors. Vivian was an avid gardener with two green thumbs; her plants were renowned for being some of the most beautiful and healthy due to her diligent nurturing. When she wasn't gardening, she could be found fishing by the lakeside. Even if the weather wasn't great, Vivian still found herself with plenty to do indoors. She was a skilled seamstress, a talented cook, and a passionate reader.
One of Vivian's most memorable quirks was her love for Christmas. Her family fondly recalls how many Santa Claus figurines she had (an impressive collection to say the least), all the way down to the salt and pepper shakers. During that time of year, Vivian welcomed family and friends around the table, sharing her boundless love and enthusiasm. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially brought endless happiness to her life.
Vivian lived a life rich in warmth, creativity, and joy, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and a tapestry woven with love.
Vivian is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ida "Sue" Mercer; her husband, George Isenhower; her son, Edward “Mike” Isenhower; her granddaughter, Jennifer Isenhower; and her siblings, Desley (Guy), Tom (Edis), Merlin (Catherine), Elmer (Joyce), Jack (Connie), and Beth.
Vivian is survived by children Connie (Danny) Carmean-Rucker, Richard "Rick" (Paula) Isenhower, Georgenia "Genia" (Charles "Chuck") Cave; grandchildren Daryl Carmean, Travis (Miriam) Carmean, Donald (Kim) Cave, Ginger (James) Kelley, Charlie Cave; great-grandchildren Olivia and Norah Carmean; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
